The Host City: Porto, World Heritage City

The recognition of Porto as an UNESCO’s World Heritage City 1996, is undoubtedly a tribute to its wealth of over two thousand years of history, with its heterogeneous architecture Cathedral, the 14th century Medieval Wall, the iconic baroque Clerics Tower, the Douro river with its famous Port wine cellars, and its contemporary architecture as the Modern Art Museum, Serralves Foundation and the House of Music. Porto can be easily reached by direct flights from major airline companies, including, low cost operators. A shuttle bus service and a subway line connect the airport and the city centre.

Porto is like its wine: unique, exquisite, authentic and an event in itself.

The Douro is a magnificent river, and well worth a cruise. You can take a Douro cruise from Porto, to Régua, Pinhão and Barca d'Alva, and visit the famous Port wine farms.
